We are enabling better access to local, sustainable food for people in Carmarthenshire.
About the project
As a stakeholder in strategic local food partnership Bwyd Sir Gar Food, we have co-designed a whole-food system project for Carmarthenshire. The project has been designed alongside grassroots network Rhwydwaith Bwyd Sir Gar/Carmarthenshire Food Network with input from residents, organisations, businesses and town/community councils.
The partnership is a member of the Sustainable Food Places programme and aims to nurture a resilient, diverse, sustainable, health-promoting and inclusive food system.
The partnership project will:
- Support growers to supply public sector meals, building on a previous pilot project
- Take on a county farm, growing food for a school menu redesign using local, sustainable ingredients
- Use the county farm to demonstrate what can be grown in Carmarthenshire
- Use the county farm as a hub for training, engagement, equipment and events
- Support more access to green public spaces for community growing, cooking and meal sharing
- Link with the county's food insecurity projects to increase access to fresh produce
