Windmill Hill City Farm was formed in 1976 by a volunteer group of local residents determined to see a piece of inner city wasteland put to more productive use, giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming in the heart of the city.

It offers educational, recreational and therapeutic facilities and activities for local people including a range of farmyard animals, community gardens, picnic area, café serving home-made food, an adventure playground, community building with meeting spaces, a five-a-side pitch, environmental and craft-based courses, and a nursery for children aged from nine months to five years old.

The City Farm is a company limited by guarantee (01409415) registered as a charity (277287). It is governed by a board of trustees according to the rules laid down in its memorandum and articles of association, which contain its charitable objects.

Its ambitions for the coming years are laid out in its three-year strategy.
