Windmill Community Gardens Margate aims to deliver social, environmental and health benefits whilst supporting people to learn about food growing, cooking and outdoor activities together. The project has a community garden and market garden of one acre each offering a wide range of fun and educational activity; volunteer and work experience opportunities for local communities and visiting groups. The project is located on two wildlife rich one-acre sites. The main community site has the following facilities and areas: kitchen; indoor and outdoor individual, group and communal organic growing spaces; wildlife garden and pond with pond dipping and seating; young orchard with local fruit and nut varieties; compost toilet; compost bins and wormeries; under 5's play area with willow tunnels and sandpit; picnic and bonfire areas; woodwork area, herb, flower, soft fruit and perennial vegetable beds and plant nursery. We grow, sell and share chemical free produce on a co-produced basis with members of the local community. Bee Hives are on the market garden site where we grow most of our produce for our Veg box scheme and restaurants.
