An initiative begun by local community gardeners and social historians back in 2013 when they were able to visit Granton's 'forgotten' Walled Garden. The remains of a Victorian Orchard were still productive within the two acre late-medieval listed garden and provided lovely heritage fruit to share at community events and cafes in the area.
The Friends Group officially registered with the city council in August 2014 and hope to restore the neglected garden to productivity, sharing and enjoying the many health and wellbeing benefits this could bring to North Edinburgh. The story of the garden itself dating back to the mid 1500's and many wonderful tales from the retired market gardener have inspired people of all ages to get involved in campaigning to safeguard and restore this unique heritage environment.
