***** Green Care Quality Mark Awarded since Aug 2022 *****
We are a busy Equine-Assisted Interventions Centre based on an ex-dairy farm. We have 20 acres and 14 horses onsite. We are situated in Weymouth, which has a high level of deprivation. We started in 2010 but only found a permanent home in 2017. We have 5 full-time staff providing programmes for 500+ people per year from 8 years to adult. Our service users are referred by NHS mental health teams, social services and schools with complex needs. We also train frontline workers and parents in non-verbal behaviour management strategies. We train and support others to replicate our programmes elsewhere in the UK (5 centres so far plus 2 overseas). We currently have c.40 volunteers per year, mainly service users returning both to help and to continue their development.
We are best known for our evidence base, with numerous external studies of our work showing positive results. http://www.thehorsecourse.org/evidence.
We are a registered charity and the majority of our income is from trusts and foundations with growing income from local government.
We aim to provide more volunteer spaces and do more work around horticulture and other land-based activities as we grow into our lovely place.
