Dorset Wellbeing offers bespoke outreach services to families & young people across Dorset; including Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. These services include: Outreach Tuition & Learning Support o Vocational Education & Employability Coaching o Therapeutic Outreach & Wellbeing Training.
We are an alternative education provider delivering programmes to children and young people who might be at risk of exclusion, already excluded or not participating in education for other reasons.

The main aim with our alternative education work is to help repair, prepare and, wherever possible, encourage clients to return to sustained education and/or employment. We do this through personalised learning activities characterised by nurturing relationships which enable the development of key life skills and the attainment of meaningful nationally recognised qualifications. We offer a flexible and outcomes focussed service which is rooted in personalised mentoring and coaching. This ensures our sessions help children and young people gain vital subject knowledge and study skills, whilst also building confidence, resilience and self-belief.

Our tutors have experience of coaching and mentoring in school and/or business roles. They are good at building successful relationships and have a passion for helping clients to enjoy learning and reach their full potential. They have worked successfully with many clients to set attainable targets, build confidence, resilience and realistic self-belief. Our approach searches for a dynamic balance between conducive structure and adaptable flexibility. On the one hand our approach is structured enough to help clients feel safe and focussed on achieving outcomes. Whilst on the other hand we remain flexible and patient, responding to individual need and tailoring tutorials to provide the most beneficial and positive learning experience for the individual. We encourage independence of thought whilst aiming to build self-discipline, responsibility and accountability.

Most of the tuition we provide is for Maths and English however, we can also support a variety of other subject areas, as well as a general coaching package to develop motivation, study skills, confidence, resilience and self-belief.

Our therapeutic service works with clients and professionals to design and deliver personalised therapeutic support for young people with complex and persistent social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. These strategic interventions are often more successful when it also includes support for the needs of siblings, carers, parents and/or other family members.

This service is lead by experienced & qualified therapists who ensure clinical excellence from our teams. Although this service stands alone in itself, the clinical work often benefits from encompassing some, or all, aspects of our Outreach Tuition & Learning Service and our Vocational Education & Employability Service.

In many cases this service is beneficial for children and young people who are deemed to be at greatest risk (of rapidly declining mental health and/or serious self harm) and who require a period of intensive input for the purposes of supporting their wellbeing, often while they are awaiting CAMHs assessment and/or treatment.

Where possible the therapeutic outreach & wellbeing training work aims to move a client towards a situation where re-engagement with formal education becomes possible. Where this is not the case, we help identify barriers to improvement and then address these barriers strategically. This can include strategic talk therapy, art/play/music therapy, eco/green therapy – treatment programmes which aim to improve mental and physical wellbeing through doing outdoor activities in nature ranging from walking/orienteering to conservation work or growing vegetables and helping to keep chickens and pigs.
