The Foyle Down Syndrome Trust promotes the development of a culture to encourage and enable children and Young adults with Down Syndrome to live full, independent and productive lives. We foster a culture of inclusion for all our members with a holistic approach to addressing their educational, social and emotional needs to help make a positive and lasting difference to their lives and to the lives of their families.
The Trust offers a range of different projects, for children and young people from 0 up to 32 years, including 1:2:1 Education, Music Therapy, Healthy Hearts and Mind Project, Social and Personal Developement Project, Down Right Crafty (Social Enterprise Project) and Project 21 - Day Opportunities. These programmes are kindly supported and funded by a range of funders including The National Lottery Community Fund, BBC Children in Need, Western Health and Social Care Trust and many many more.
Our Healthy Hearts and Minds Project is made up of 3 different programmes: Health and Wellbeing; Outdoor Learning and Mentoring. We offer a wide range of activities on a weekly basis, such as cookery, a range of exercise techniques and outdoor learning in our outdoor space.
Our outdoor space/garden has recently been developed into a more secure child-friendly play area, with hopes to transform our sensory garden, adding more vibrant flowers, herbs etc. We are hoping to use our planters to develop a "grow your own" programme so that our children and young people can use their own produce in our cookery programme and perhaps as part of our social enterprise project.
We have an area at the back of our building that we haven't properly made good use of, so we would greatly appreciate any ideas or suggestions as to how we can utilize the space more effectively.
