The Brithdir Mawr Community Benefit Society aims to:
● Secure land and buildings to provide affordable housing & support low impact living
● Promote sustainability through encouraging involvement in land based projects
● Connect with the wider community to strengthen engagement in local food production
Brithdir Mawr Community Benefit Society wish to take full ownership of the Brithdir Mawr farm and its estate and are looking to expand on the existing commercial activities that currently take place whilst furthering the values of sustainability, cooperation and education. These activities comprise the following:
● A new 2.5 acre fruit growing area will be planted up in the coming year. Apple trees will provide the basis for a juice, cider and vinegar making business, while strawberries and raspberries will provide visitors with local „pick your own‟ provision.
● Other areas of land have been earmarked as a location for low impact events, for example wedding receptions, courses, festivals and other public and private events, enabling guests to learn, relax and celebrate in beautiful, natural surroundings.
● We will take over the role of „landlord‟ for Brithdir Mawr Housing Co-operative, ensuring the provision of local, affordable and low impact housing.
● Volunteer opportunities will be provided, enabling those interested in taking the next steps towards a low impact, sustainable lifestyle to experience this first hand within a supportive, community setting.
● A "Care Farm‟ project will be developed on-site for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups within the local community that would benefit from this kind of unique, therapeutic environment, including respite for those that normally provide care for others on a daily basis.
