Our community group, called ‘Friends of Llanfrechfa Grange Walled Garden’ is a registered charity with 6 unpaid charity Trustees responsible for overseeing the development and ongoing maintenance of the old Victorian Walled Garden at Llanfrechfa Grange, which is adjacent to the new Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran, Torfaen.

The stated purpose of the charity is “to create and maintain an uplifting multi-purpose garden for the benefit of the public and healthcare staff through the redesign and restoration of the Walled Garden at Llanfrechfa Grange.”

The charity holds a 10 year lease on the Walled Garden from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. We have a membership base of about 100 members and a cohort of about 40 dedicated volunteers. Since April 2022 the garden has been opened to the public every day during the working hours of its volunteers, generally 10 a.m. -1.30 p.m. but often longer. The Trustees are keen to encourage gardening in all its forms and holds regular events to engage members of the public, staff, patients and visitors to the hospital.
