We are a 2 acre 'almost-wild' site in rural Gateshead. Our mission: We believe that getting outdoors is vital to every aspect of our health and wellbeing, and crucial to our understanding of nature and the world around us. We exist to help local young people (and their families) explore, discover and enjoy the outdoors here at Birkheads Wild CIC. The site is a rural meadow surrounded by mature trees with a pond, an award winning composting toilet, a Yurt and a parachute covered campfire area as communal spaces. We are in the early stages of developing approx 1/2 an acre as a Community Garden and have been growing veg and keeping free range hens on a small scale for the last 3 years. We run Forest School and bushcraft sessions, occasional adult events in outdoor crafts and have a 28 day camping licence.
Facilities: Volunteering, Community space for hire, Picnic area, Play activities, Holiday activities, Wildlife area, Sustainable/Green building on site
