We are a family who reside on an established 10 acre smallholding in North Lincolnshire and keep livestock including pigs, cows, sheep and chickens. We have some rare and traditional breeds which include Hereford cows, Saddleback pigs and Zwartble sheep. We consider ourselves hobby farmers as we do this for enjoyment rather than profit and wanted to share our experience with others in the community. We have some land opposite our home which we are developing to use as a care farm environment utilising some of our current livestock.
Vicki is an experienced Social Worker and enjoys working with children, young people and adults, particularly vulnerable groups for example children and adults with disabilities, children with special educational needs, people with dementia, students excluded from school, adults and children struggling with mental ill health and service users rehabilitating from alcohol and substance addiction.
We will also hold groups for local children during the holidays and term time, we hope to have a little farmers club for under 5's and a young farmers club for teenagers with a hope of promoting farming futures.
Chris has the agriculture and farming background and is experienced with livestock. We will offer the opportunity to spend time with, learn about and care for small animals and livestock, learn agricultural skills (this will be tailored to the service users levels of ability in terms of complexity), growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables, develop knowledge and skills in horticulture and conservation, craft and woodwork, forestry skills and education.
We would like to involve some local volunteers who either already hold or would like to develop a range of skills and experiences. We would also like to engage people who have an interest in farming and hope that this can lead to future experience for college or employment.
