New Hope Global (NHG) is a registered charity whose objectives are to support disadvantaged and marginalized people within the socially and economically disadvantaged communities of Birmingham and its surrounding areas.
New Hope Global, with its office, positioned at the heart of the community, knows the constraints and issues being faced by the people of BAME background. Under the framework of the ongoing ‘Healthier Community Through Sustainable Gardening' project, we are conducting a gardening project for the beneficiaries who are predominantly of Bangladeshi origin and who have recently migrated from Italy, Netherlands, Germany, and other EU countries.
The project activities include training on gardening, demonstration of gardening activities in allotments, sharing of seeds and crops, workshops on healthy eating. During the national lockdown in recent years, we operated several virtual workshops on gardening, distributed gardening accessories to our beneficiaries, schools to continue their gardening activities. The gardening project made an incredibly positive impact on our isolated and mentally depressed community.
From the previous projects conducted on similar ground, and the current gardening project, New Hope Global (NHG) has learned that gardening is a useful tool and highly popular hobby among the Bangladeshi community especially children who enjoyed a lot engaging with fruit and vegetable growing in their backyards. These project activities build a network of community gardens, children are learning the importance of soil in agriculture, raising awareness to reduce the pollution level, and thereby making an environmentally sustainable community.
New Hope Global is operating a tuition program under the guidance of New Hope Education where most of our students come from the local community. With the growing demand and interest of our project beneficiaries and their children, we would like to operate a project on a day trip for our beneficiaries’ children including the students who are taking tuition under New Hope Education. The project activities include allotment visits, a day trip to Manor Farm Fruits, an exhibition of vegetables and fruits that are grown in allotments, and our beneficiaries’ gardens.
Strength of running this project: New Hope Global operated a gardening project ‘Growing Together’ funded by Heart of England which involved school children to demonstrate gardening. Currently, NGH is operating a gardening project funded by Cadent Foundation and recently completed another gardening project funded by Ernest Hecht Charitable Foundation. We have skilled staff and Project Assistants who will support this project if the grant application is successful. All of our staff are DBS checked.
