North Birkenhead Development Trust (NBDT) are a charity that manage the St James Centre - a multi-purpose community centre on Laird Street in Birkenhead. NBDT are based in a community where over 50% of children live below the poverty line, it’s also within the top 10% of deprived areas across the U.K, according to the multiple indexes of deprivation.
From a day nursery, community cafe, foodbank, library, and a full weekly 'what’s on', the St James Centre is the vibrant, busy heart of the community. We also venture out of the Centre, with a local allotment for growing, getting muddy and learning. Ultimately, NBDT aim to improve the opportunities and quality of life for all those living in North Birkenhead, from cradle to grave.
We do this by delivering a year round 'what's on' of activities, for all ages from chair aerobics, to kids clubs, shared reading groups, and wellbeing welly walks.
