Hawksmoor Growing Club at Claridge Way Community Garden is an open garden created and managed by Peabody as part of their Making Space for Nature project. The garden has a mini-orchard and many planters that encourage residents, local schools and youth clubs to get engaged in growing food and practice gardening skills. Peabody's gardener in residence deliver regular drop-in sessions for the community on this site and tailored educational sessions can be delivered for schools and organised groups. The dates and timings can be found at: https://www.thamesmeadnow.org.uk/whats-on/community-gardening-drop-in-sessions/
Peabody, together with Groundwork and the Mayor of London, is working in partnership with the local Thamesmead community to introduce new ways of using and enjoying our beautiful green space. The parks and public green spaces are a great place to exercise, have a picnic, or just get a bit of fresh air, and we’d like to help you get the most out of them. As part of our project we manage 4 community gardens across Thamesmead. Their aim is to encourage residents in food growing and gardening activities: The other three gardens are:
- Birchmere Good Life Garden, Birchmere Park, SE28 8AP
- Lakeside Centre Garden, Bazalgette Way, SE2 9AN
- Edible Garden, Maran Way, DA18 4BP
