Based at the Urb Farm in Wolverton, Growing People is a social enterprise Market Garden working with young people no longer in the mainstream school system to grow sustainable and seasonal vegetables and fruit for the local community.
Growing People is staffed by a wonderful team of young people who train and learn with us rather than through the mainstream school system. Together with our trainees and volunteers, we grow seasonal fruit and veg for the local community using environmentally sensitive techniques, on 2.5 acres of land in the heart of residential Wolverton. Our motto is “growing food, growing communities and growing people” and this is what we aim to do in our work each and every day.
Trainees work towards vocational qualifications and Functional Skills (English and maths) while with us, and our aim is for them to develop their self-confidence, social skills, employability skills and personal development as a whole while with us. Furthermore, we work with them to progress onto college, an apprenticeship or employment.
We are part of a larger local charity called MK Christian Foundation, which is also based in Wolverton and aims to improve the local community through social enterprise. This is an “all faiths and none” charity which works with people from all cultures and backgrounds.
