We are a not for profit registered charity. We have just acquired a 25 year lease for our allotments, making it safe and secure for the future. We have 43 members plus their partners and extended families. Plus 2 charities who have a gardening club in BronFair plus independent living people with learning difficulties. We help another 2 groups of disabled people and their careers to grow their own fruit and veg, stop their loneliness and help mental well being, giving them a purpose to get up in the morning. We have specially built allotment plots for this purpose, the only one in the area.
We have an eco garden, and a community hub for meetings and get togethers, both recently completed. Our future plans, we need to extend and repair our parking area. Allowing us to invite local schools to join us or visit, showing them bee keeping, chickens, nesting boxes, bugs and most importantly how we grow our own veg, giving children at the earliest opportunity a love of nature and gardening. 2 of our 5 trustees are also on the board of governors at our local schools so we know they would love this opportunity. Also open our Hub as a gardening shop one morning a week, supplying our surplus plants and gardening necessities to the public. We already have a few of our excellent gardeners offering to volunteer, man the shop and give advice with fruit, veg and flower growing
This year everyone has grown extra veg as we are aware there this is a work deprived area and a lot of people are living below the poverty level and will appreciate free fruit and veg that we are able to provide. Our main worry right now is the poor state of our disabled plots, they are 12 years old and a lot of the timber is rotting and needs replacing so the plots can continue to be used. We also need some sheds for families who can’t afford to supply their own to store their gardening tools and just somewhere to get out of the rain, better access to their plots, muddy and slippery in winter, water butts as we are not on mains water, picnic benches for families and friends to enjoy their time together with more nesting boxes, bug houses. We want to work side by side with nature
