Through our community growing project we aim create a lush green space where we can grow fresh produce to add to our food parcels whilst also creating a nature-based space for the enjoyment of all our volunteers, local people who access our foodbank, and some of our community partners.
By becoming involved in our community growing project we hope that those involved will derive benefit in a number of ways:
- improvements in their health and wellbeing
- provide an opportunity for them to connect with their community in a meaningful way – one that respects difference and promotes diversity
- a safe space to build friendships and new networks
- encourage self reliance
- helping produce nutritious food and learning the skills to grow at home.
Working with community partners we aim to create a safe welcoming space where families and individuals can come along and work together in the allotment.
In addition as a founding member of the East Lothian Friendly Food Network we are keen to embrace the Good Food Charter and work towards bringing communities and organisations together to create a thriving, food-resilient county.
