Station Roots is a people-led community gardening and food growing project that aims to contribute to local community development, wellbeing, connectedness, and resilience. Specifically, the goal is to help improve local identified social needs around loneliness and mental health by increasing the quality and quantity of a) signposting and b) local opportunities and activities to support positive mental health.
The project centres on Earlswood Station, where local people will volunteer their time, skills and expertise to create a wildflower garden and community food growing space to regenerate redundant disused station land.
Alongside this station project will be an array of connected activity across the area that is planned, initially, to include: a green front garden development scheme focusing; community orchard; community allotment and school activity; and the development of the local community run pub garden. These activities will be connected by a pollinator and wellbeing planter network throughout the main pedestrian routes and community centres.
The intention is to improve the social and physical fabric of the community by weaving together different and diverse projects, co-produced by local people and groups, while being inclusive of specific needs.
