Our project initially began in 2021 when I applied for a small grant to develop an area of land at a local GAA club. The aim was to fund the purchase of pollinator-friendly Spring bulbs & small trees / shrubs. As this progressed I managed to obtain further grant funds which opened up the opportunity to create this new space for a garden & allotment at the club. Development of the space started in 2022. During Spring 2023 we started to open the 1st phase of the space up (raised beds) with the 2nd phase (allotment plots) to follow. With my parents both deceased in recent years, & with the impact of COVID in mind, I was keen to explore options for different groups in the community, something beyond the facilities currently available in the area. For example, the club already caters very well for younger active people who participte in sport, while options for females & older people are not quite as available. However, the space is available to anyone who expresses an interest. The garden/allotment is situated in a rural shared space (GAA playing field, 3G pitch, playground, walking/running track, social club, community centre) so it offers options & facilities for visitors.
Facilities: Cafe, Volunteering, Shop, Community space for hire, Picnic area, Community recycling/composting, Play area, Play activities
