1. To open up 5 new allotments to be made available to local people wanting space to grow produce.
2. To refurbish and reallocate at least 2 raised beds, with a view to allow people with impairments to be able to have the benefit of growing their own gardens.
3. To improve the infrastructure of the garden by running water and electricity to the site, including contractors to install lights and socket to the shed and an outside tap.
4. To build a shed for storage of equipment but also to provide shelter for gardeners in inclement weather.
5. To add a greenhouse for use of gardeners to propagate plants.
6. To provide an enhanced water collection system in order to enhance sustainability.
7. To upgrade the composting facilities to enhance the recycling of garden materials.
8. To add CCTV, locks and security to the site for the safety of the users.
9. To upgrade the hard standing areas to make them more accessible to wheelchair users and people of limited mobility.
10. To provide appropriate seating and shelter in the form of a parasol to enable people with impairments to be able to comfortably use the garden.
11. To invest in a laptop computer and stationary items to manage and promote the project.
Community Activities
The garden is currently used to host an annual garden party, where people living with dementia and those supporting them, from all over Gwynedd, can get together for a celebration. This continues to be a successful, enjoyable social event.
The garden has also become a meeting place for carers, who, as well as the benefits of working in the garden, have also benefitted from an informal network offering advice, as well as practical and emotional support.
We have a six week series of mindfulness meetings is booked from 11th March 2024. This is being funded by a grant through Public Health Wales which is all about getting people out within their square mile.
During the last 12 months, we have partnered with the local LD team to share sessions.
We have also partnered with the youth offending team and have had a young offender come in and work along side us as part of rehabilitation.
We have already had expressions of interest from individuals who would like an allotment, and are in the process of developing advertising to seek further expressions of interest.
Our Vision
We are committed to this becoming a vibrant, interactive space to benefit the community that it serves and would also want to investigate involvement with the food bank and people in food poverty, so that excess produce can be used for people that need it most.
We would also like to investigate collaboration with other Community Groups in the area for example Felin Fach, Derwen, Hafod Hedd. Also linking in with Local GP surgeries. We have members of the group attending Gwynedd Council’s Dementia Supergroup and would use networking opportunities through this group to further spread interest in the garden.
We would like to increase the number of community events run from the garden for the benefit of the community and the environment.
I enclose some photographs of the activities already taking place.
