Presteigne Community Garden was started in 2023 by a small group of volunteers who had the shared aims of wanting to; reduce waste, improve resilience in food production, eat healthily, save money and make locally grown fresh food accessible to all.
Physical resources so far have been sourced locally via strong support and community links from within the town e.g. the Freegle network and items donated via the local Community Newsletter. The produce grown has been distributed via a number of channels
1. For volunteers own use.
2. A local food ‘giveaway’ in town which resulted in monetary donations which were then converted to foodbank vouchers.
3. Direct contributions of fresh vegetables and fruit to the local foodbank.
The garden has provided volunteers with the opportunity to both grow healthy locally produced vegetables and to be part of a friendly social group that is also active in helping/contributing to other community groups.
