We are a small primary school in North Wales. Our project is to establish ‘Fferm Y Ferry’ as a school farm run by pupils and our community. It will provide an abundance of skills and experiences to our pupils, parents and wider community through animal husbandry, crop management and harvest for sale of produce in our community shop. We’ve already rescued 8 hens with a view to getting more. Their eggs are sold to our community by pupils. Our vision in the next year is to rescue / buy sheep and goats to support our school based nurture interventions. Alongside the farm we will also be developing conversation and sustainability as a priority for pupils to develop through a pond, wildlife areas, peace garden and growing plants.
We’ve already developed links with two farmers to support and advise on our project and a local vet who will advocate for the project.
Once established we will link with our local high school who have expressed interest in supporting management of the site and our LA PRU/EOTAS provision that will support the projects development.
