We’re hosting a Have a Grow Day
Prosiect Natur Llanddeiniolen
Prosiect Natur Llanddeiniolen was set up in December 2022 as a grass-roots network supporting various growing groups across 5 villages, in the parish of Llanddeiniolen.
We are on a mission to support the establishment of more community garden spaces - currently around 12 sites across the parish - turning unused bits of public land into gardens, flower beds and orchards... In the process we are coming together to talk about what else we want to do, e.g. share tools, seeds and skills, look after our rivers, woodlands and other special habitats, support local businesses, explore & protect our heritage and celebrate community. We also work with local schools to develop school gardens and creative projects.
We are 100% volunteer-run and led, and inclusive to anyone who wants to join in. We collaborate with other community groups in the villages we work in, to apply for grants that boost community development and improve green spaces - otherwise we rely on donations, recycling, seed-saving and goodwill!
We will be
- checking on orchards planted this year with Keep Wales Tidy packs (as well as our older & more established ones!)
- clearing, weeding and making our spaces feel loved
- planting bits and bobs
- moving weeds to our nearest community composting sites
Almost all our sites are on public land, with public access (e.g. village greens, parks and verges in villages).
On Sunday June 9th will be doing a 'whistlestop tour' of most of our gardening sites - aiming to call in at:
- New orchard at Maes Gwylfa, Deiniolen, 9am
- New orchard at Rhyd Fadog, Deiniolen, 9.30am
- Rhiwlas village hall and Caeau Gleision planters (2023 scheme), 10am
- Rhiwlas park, 10.30am
- Bro Rhiwen, Rhiwlas (our original Incredible Edible Rhiwlas planters), 11am
- Ysgol Rhiwlas gardens, 11.30am
- New orchard at Bethel, 1pm
- New orchard and community garden at Llys y Gwynt, Penisarwaun, 3pm
- Verge planters in Brynrefail, 5pm
- Allotments and orchard at Caban Cafe Brynrefail, 7pm
